Ahadith on Shaving a New Born Baby
Narrated Samurah ibn Jundub:
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
A boy is in pledge for his aqiqah, Sacrifice is made for him on the seventh day, his head is shaved and he is given name.

Narrated Ali (RA):
The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) slaughtered a goat on the occasion of Hasan's birth, the son of Fatimah (RA) and Ali (RA) and said: Oh Fatimah! Shave the head of Hasan and pay silver equal to the weight of the hair as charity".
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 1519; classed as hasan by Shaykh al-Albaani in
Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 1226)

Yahya related to me from Malik from Jafar ibn Muhammad that his father said:
"Fatima, (the daughter of the Messenger of Allaah,صلى الله عليه وسلم ) weighed the hair of Hasan, Husayn, Zaynab and Umm Kulthum, and gave away in sadaqa an equivalent weight of silver." (Al-Muwatta 26.2)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) sacrificed a sheep on the seventh day for al-Hasan and said “Shave his head and give the weight of his hair in silver as sadaqah.” (Mishkat)

In another hadith:
"Shave his head and give the weight of his hair in silver to the poor" [Ahmad]

The right side of the head should be shaved first, then the left as mentioned in the hadith,
"Shave, and he indicated to the right side of his head, and then the left" [Muslim]

NOTE:
The shaving should be done after the sacrifice, and our pious predecessors liked to rub some perfume over the baby's head after the shaving. Then it is prescribed to give the value of the weight of the baby's hair in silver in charity, and it is recommended to give this charity on the seventh day also, but it is not necessary to do so, and may be delayed.
